What ‘Rolling Stone’ Got Wrong About the “Fight Over Guns on Campus”

rooz What ‘Rolling Stone’ Got Wrong About the “Fight Over Guns on Campus” image

by AmmoLand Editor Duncan Johnson Students for Concealed Carry on Campus AUSTIN, TEXAS – -(Ammoland.com)- When Students for Concealed Carry (SCC) was approached last July by a young reporter from Rolling Stone magazine, we were skeptical. Rolling Stone is known for pandering to trendy views, not challenging them. However, the reporter promised that his article on the campus carry movement would be a long-form piece based on months of research, and we decided that not participating in the story would do more harm than participating. After reading reporter Ben Wofford’s…

You Can’t Use Your Sights in a Gunfight: Another Myth That Just Won’t Die

Mar. 02, 2017 No Comments One persistent piece of gun shop lore is that it’s impossible to use your sights under the stress of a violent encounter. Entire alternative shooting systems have been built around this idea and many of the arguments used to perpetuate the myth seem convincing at first, especially to those who are still learning gun fighting basics. While it is true that you can learn to make hits without using your sights, particularly when both you and your target are stationary, all of the alternative, sightless…

Flinching

Not to beat a dead horse, but most eye exams don’t tell you much about shotgunning. Dominance can change with fatigue, stress, hydration etc. I would trust a really good coach over an eye doc for most shooting issues. In the same way, any bad habits can be reinforced (checking lead, moving too high on the target line, and others) can come and go as an issue as our subconscious strives to sort perceptions and visual reality. Best of luck and hope you just had a slump and don’t have…

Field and Stream Retail Store

It is owned by Dick’s Sporting Goods, and is meant to compete with the ones you mentioned. I’m kind of mixed on whether I like the concept (and the stores themselves). Dicks started this “brand” after they F’d up royally with their first black rifle ban. Plus Dick’s stores are really hit or miss as far as having a decent shooting, hunting and fishing section. Personally I prefer good local stores; then Cabelas. Bass Pro; Gander both suck. Academy here in Greenville, SC is not too bad. The local chain;…
