Samsung Galaxy S8 Schematics Show Fingerprint Scanner Next to Rear Camera GO The schematics show an additional physical key on the side Feb 1, 2017 09:39 GMT · By Alexandra Vaidos · Share: Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 is surely one of the most anticipated smartphones to be announced in the coming weeks, as leaks and images continue to surface online. We’ve seen numerous renders and a live image of the smartphone surfaced a few days ago. A new set of schematics surfaced over at CNET Korea (via SamMobile ), showing some interesting details about the upcoming phone. As expected, the physical home button in the front is nowhere in sight, instead there’s a new key on the side of the phone, said to be used together with Samsung’s Bixby AI assistant. The schematics are reportedly based on information from an eyewitness who has seen the device, and they do fit previous rumors. The report says that Samsung won’t be using the ‘edge’ moniker to name the two upcoming Galaxy S8 variants, mostly because they will both have dual-edge displays. 18:9 aspect ratio and rear fingerprint sensor The ‘Plus’ moniker will be used, since the standard variant is said to have a 5.8-inch display, while the larger model a 6.2-inch screen, both with 18:9 aspect ratios. The report confirms the use of on-screen navigation buttons and the fingerprint scanner will be placed on the back, beside the camera sensor. We’ve seen many smartphones with rear-mounted fingerprint scanners, and some of them are located below the camera so that users could access them easier. Nevertheless, the phone is expected to feature a 3.5mm headphone jack and Samsung plans to also launch a set of new wireless earphones in various colors. The Galaxy S8 will retain the USB Type-C port and come with the latest specs. The phone’s battery capacity is quite unknown, recent contradicting reports say that it might reach up to 3,750mAh on the Galaxy S8 Plus , which would make it larger than on the S7 edge. It remains to be seen if Samsung took any chances with the battery and managed to squeeze a larger unit while also retaining the phone’s thin design. CHECK OUT THE GALLERY (3 Images)
