Last night, the first trailer for Star Wars Battlefront 2 was leaked to the internet , giving us our first glimpse at what the sequel has to offer. The clip focuses in on the game’s single-player campaign, which looks set to star the character that narrates the commercial.
We know that this character was an Imperial pilot at the time of the Battle of Endor, which took place at the conclusion of Return of the Jedi . From what we see in the clip, it seems that the Empire’s defeat prompts her to try avenge the death of the Emperor, which likely forms the basis for the Star Wars Battlefront 2 campaign.
It seems that the protagonist of the game’s story mode will be an all new character to the Star Wars universe. Fans have pointed out that she bears a physical resemblance to Rae Sloane, an Imperial officer featured in various books and comics released as part of the new canon — but Sloane was in command of a Star Destroyer during the Battle of Endor, and we see the game’s protagonist on the planet as the Death Star explodes in the leaked clip.
The fact that Battlefront 2 stars an all-new character should be very exciting for fans. It seems that DICE and Motive are being given the opportunity to add to the Star Wars universe in meaningful ways, which might mean that some of the gaps between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens are filled in.
While we don’t know a great deal about the character just yet, some fans are speculating that she will be portrayed by actress Janina Gavankar. The idea was raised based on the fact that the in-game model looks like her, but there is some additional evidence that she could play the role.
Gavankar has experience with big video game franchises, having previously appeared in Far Cry 4 and the Halo 5: Guardians tie-in Hunt the Truth . She’s also liked and shared Star Wars related content on her personal Twitter account over the past few days, and recently retweeted a comment from Mitch Dyer — who is a writer at Motive, the studio handling the single-player campaign for Star Wars Battlefront 2 .
We’re sure to learn more about the protagonist of the Battlefront 2 campaign over the coming weeks and months. In fact, we might not have to wait too long at all, since the leaked clip was likely meant to make its official debut at Star Wars Celebration, which gets underway later this week.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 launches this year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
