Into the Woods

“The woods are just trees, the trees are just wood,” or so the characters sing, trying to convince themselves that there is nothing to fear in the endless forest into which they all verdure. In fact the woods are as break and creepy as is required for a fairy tale. Unfortunately some of that bleakness seeps into the personality of the whole movie. I give director Rob Marshall credit for not making a movie that is delightful and plushy or child pandering (as one would fear from a Disney Production.)…

rooz Wonder Woman 2017 Review | Vanity Fair image

Twitter Courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Wonder Woman is how, well, unremarkable it is. After all the stops and starts and frustrations of trying to get a Wonder Woman movie made—a whole, vast system stymied by the idea of one measly female superhero starring in her own movie— Patty Jenkins‘s film is finally upon us. And, well, it turns out it’s just another superhero movie. A good superhero movie, sturdily built and solidly entertaining. But yeah, it’s yet another origin story for one of…

Wonder Woman Movie SPOILERS!

by senwolf » Fri Jun 02, 2017 4:11 am So I really liked Wonder Woman. You should go see it.Just to give you an idea I have liked most of the Marvel movies, About 50/50 on Fox X-men, loved Deadpool and Logan, disliked Dark Knight Rises and hated, hated, hated MoS, BvS:DOJ, and Suicide Squad.A couple of non spoilery notes:Gal Gadot: I was a little worried about her. I really liked the 3 minutes she was in BvS but was afraid her limited screen time might have hidden any acting…

Hailed as feminist touchstone, ‘Wonder Woman’ fails to live up to hype

Wonder Woman (2017) Directed by Patty Jenkins “Is ‘Wonder Woman’ good?” has taken a back seat to “Is ‘Wonder Woman’ feminist?” lately. And for good reason. Superhero movies roar into theaters every month or two. But ones led by women are, well, virtually non-existent. “Wonder Woman” was hailed as a touchstone of feminist cinema…but after all the hype, the truth might sting. Unfortunately, I didn’t see much in “Wonder Woman” worth hyping—and my answer to both above questions is, disappointingly, no. Just like any other superhero origin story, which, truth…

Review: Wonder Woman – More Powerful than TV Viewers Were Given a Chance to See

With a mere $149,000,000 budget – loose change these days – Warner Brothers has finally released a MARVELous motion picture from the DC comic books stable of stars. And they did it by making this film modelled after a Disney Captain America / Iron Man / Ant Man release. We’ll get to the film after we go over some particulars… that Ant Man was budgeted out at 130 million and brought in 519 million plus. That 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger was budgeted out at 140 mil and brought…

The Diva Del Mar Feels Empowered by Wonder Woman Published at: June 2, 2017, 5:01 a.m. CST by headgeek Upon finishing my first viewing of Wonder Woman, the first word that came into my head was “FINALLY!” This is a film that has been lacking in main stream cinema for too long. We’ve needed an action-packed feminist film with the capacity to reach a large audience and to inspire millions. This film is for everybody and I am so glad it’s here! Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman carries the…

How ‘Wonder Woman’ built a world of women Thursday Jun 1, 2017 at 7:00 AM By Sandy CohenAP Entertainment Writer LOS ANGELES (AP) — In a world of only women, there are no phallic structures. At least that’s how Patty Jenkins imagined the island home of the Amazons and their heroic princess Diana, who grows up to become Wonder Woman. “Like columns? They didn’t make that much sense to me,” Jenkins said in a recent interview. “They felt like an imposition on landscape, which didn’t feel like something that women…

rooz Here’s why Wonder Woman’s most heroic scene was very nearly cut | GamesRadar+ image

Comments Shares Wonder Woman is a hero. I know it, you know it, but apparently, not everyone does. One very important scene was nearly cut because it didn’t quite fit with the traditional trope of heroes vs villains. It turns out, a superhero doing something out of the kindness of their own heart isn’t obviously recognisable. Who knew? Minor plot details/scene descriptions follow. The scene in question involves Diana making her way across No Man’s Land in WW1 to rescue a village from the oncoming onslaught of German forces –…
