Representative Michael C. Burgess says that if the A.C.A repeal “and replace” legislation claims his ‘career’ as a legislator, then so be it. That attitude is more common in jihadi circles than in legislative circles, but what he is actually saying is “constituents be damned, I’m going to get rid of Obamacare, no matter what the cost to the people!” There is little defense against that level of irrationality. If anybody cares, please note that this is probably going to be passed (at least in the House) before the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office is able to processs a report on the bill, but Republicans are alreeady issuing statements about how the CBO is “never right” and “always over-estimates the cost and coverage” so I guess it really doesn’t matter what the real cost and real coverage is, does it? Republicans are doing EXACTLY what they accused the democrats of doing in 2009-2010 with the ACA but, since it’s the republicans doing it this time, it’s alright! For the record I will point out that the plan, as presented, will cost those who can still qualify for coverage more money while covering fewer people and also it will cover fewer medical items and will also cost the general public a lot more money and raise the national debt – but other than that, it’s “better” than the ACA. Oh, and it will essentially destroy Medicaid and have a disastrous effect on Medicare as well (but not until 2020) so we will all have a chance to forget who was responsible for shafting us.
