Trump “moving rapidly” to pick new FBI chief

US president Donald Trump has stepped up the search for a new FBI chief, a week after he abruptly fired James Comey from the post.
Trump told reporters that he was moving rapidly to find a replacement for Comey. He added that he might even make a decision before leaving later this week on his first major foreign trip, to the Middle East and Europe. At least a dozen different names are being mentioned in U-S media as candidates. Last week, Trump fired Comey and cautioned him on leaking tapes of their conversations to the press. The shocking dismissal, however, triggered accusations that the president was trying to obstruct an F-B-I probe into whether his election campaign colluded with Russia. Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers are threatening to put up roadblocks to Trump’s new pick unless a special prosecutor is named to probe Trump’s ties with Russia.
