SAN ANTONIO — Warriors rookie center Damian Jones has been assigned to Golden State’s Development League affiliate in Santa Cruz.
The initial plan when Jones was sent down to Santa Cruz on Feb. 24 was for him to stick around for the rest of the D-League regular season, which would have had him returning to the NBA club April 1 — in time for the Warriors’ final six regular-season games. However, things changed after Steve Kerr decided to rest Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala in San Antonio on Saturday.
Jones, 21, recorded four points and five rebounds in 21 minutes of Golden State’s 107-85 loss to the Spurs. Now, he is expected to finish out the D-League regular season with Santa Cruz. In 22 games with Santa Cruz, Jones has averaged 8.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 24.1 minutes.
